Faking It with Damian (Clean Slate #1) (3)

Faking It with Damian (Clean Slate #1) (4)This is one of those covers that annoy the crap out of me. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the story. In fact, Damian spent like 99% of the book is a SUIT. It's just a generic half naked guy plastered on a cover. The composition is off as well. This book was really good it deserves a cover that reflects that.Faking It with Damian (Clean Slate #1) (5)

Faking It with Damian (Clean Slate #1) (6)So this one turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. It wasn't perfect (more about that in a bit) but overall it was a really enjoyable read.

This seems to be this author's debut book, and I was very impressed with how well written it was. It was nicely paced. It had some angst. It had some hot sex scenes. It had interesting side characters. Two of them are featured in Drowning in Talon which is also available now. It had no OW/OM drama. It had two (relatively) likable main characters and an OK epilogue. I imagine we will see this couple in upcoming books. I got the feeling Erica and Dante were headed in the direction of a book of their own.

Faking It with Damian (Clean Slate #1) (7)

So why not 5-Stars? One, the heroine was a tad annoying. I'm ALL for heroines getting their freak on, but this one seemed to be a bit morally challenged with her habit of sleeping with people's husbands and boyfriends. The one when she was young I could have overlooked. The second one with her coworkers on again off again (apparently she thought they were OFF) made me judge her lacking in both the moral and brains department.

My other issue was the fact that the heroine was a doppelganger of the hero's wife. So much so that EVERY character that knew the wife had to comment on it. It wasn't a HUGE issue for me, but I could have done without it.

Aside from those couple issues which sound like huge ones but were just small annoyances overall, this one was an excellent way to spend a few hours, and I look forward to reading more from this author. Two thumbs up from yours truly.Faking It with Damian (Clean Slate #1) (8)

Faking It with Damian (Clean Slate #1) (13)

The book starts with Janice.
Faking It with Damian (Clean Slate #1) (14)

A beautiful blond girl with green eyes and a smoking hot body (of course she has a perfect body, she's a Zumba instructor part time). Her dad abandoned her and her mother when she was a little girl. She doesn't do relationships, she's afraid of commitment, she thinks everyone will abandon her. But she also doesn't have time for anyone in her life, because she takes care of her mother, who is dying. She also hates her boss because he's making her life miserable at work. But as much as she hates him, as much she is attracted to him.

Damian is Janice new boss.

Faking It with Damian (Clean Slate #1) (15)

He's a very sexy god with dark hair and blue eyes who takes every woman's breath away. He is also an arrogant asshole, demanding, dominant and vile. As much as he try's to stay as far away as possible from Janice, he is more and more attracted to her, and he does everything in his power to have her. Even lie to her and drag her in some funny games. Damian also had a hard life. His parents hating him all his life, and much more when his grandfather left all his fortune to him.

When the opportunity strikes, he doesn't kick it away, he takes advantage and attracts Janice in his trap.
Every opportunity that he has.

Faking It with Damian (Clean Slate #1) (16)
What a demanding asshole. That scene...so intense.

The story with Damian wife was interesting, and although I don't like drama, this one I enjoyed.

The book was intense but in the end...it softened. The sex action was good and hot...but to much licking. I liked that, don't get me wrong, but I wanted much action in the real sex part. It was a scene when I thought that I would get some menage action, but damn.....no.

Interesting story with her father and the reason why he left her and her mother. That one I was not expecting. The book was good. The chemistry and the attraction between them were hot and intense, but I didn't get Janice most of the time.

The book was funny, was good written, I liked the story, I liked the hero...but not so much the heroine.

Faking It with Damian is Hunnam's debut novel and it didn't disappoint at all. From the sexy cover to the intriguing synopsis, the author completely won me over by introducing such relatable characters that will definitely leave you wanting for more. In the book we are introduced to Janice Holder, a Zaumba instructor who has landed a job as a leading marketing role at an engineering firm. Though she loves what she does, there are things in personal life that keep her distracted, for one her mother is sick and money is running out very quickly. It is due to her new job that she is able to make ends meet, but her boss is making things harder for her, especially when she can't get him of her head. She knows that she should stay away, but there is something about Damian that has her completely under his control. Their attraction is undeniable, but as they get to know each other, their pasts get revealed and they have to decide if by fixing them they can have a future together.

Damian Wood has it all, or so it seems. He likes to be in control, and his demanding job keeps him occupied when he is not home reminiscing over the past. But when he starts working with Janice things start to change, he suddenly feels the need to have her in his life and let go of his past. It'll be up to him to fix his past if he wants to have Janice in his life. I really enjoyed the book, the character's back stories were touching and relatable. Damian is swoon worthy and sweet. Though they have a lot to work on as a couple, they truly belong with each other. The writing was great, and the ending will leave you wanting for more. I would highly recommend it. :)

If you are looking for a hot and steamy book, then I definitely recommend this one. I really enjoyed this story and I could not put it down. The chemistry between the two characters are amazing and the intimate scenes were great!
I do feel that this is a typical romance story. Starts out with the boss, Damian, and the employee, Janice. They both act like they hate each other, but deep down there is this huge attraction between them. They end up going away for a business trip but more things end up happening than what is planned. They both want to be together, but something keeps stopping them. There are secrets, lies and a dark past, but in the end, everything ends up just how it is supposed to.
This is a great short story to read on a lazy day. It is very exciting with scenes that’ll make your toes curl. If you are looking for something quick to read, I recommend this book. I think DJ Hunnam did a really good job telling this story.

I reviewed this book on behalf of Book Addict live.
I absolutely fell in love with Damian, I thought he was great and I want to keep him. This story is set in the workplace where the sparks were flying between Damian and Janice.
The only thing I couldn’t get over is Janice being so cold with him, I know it warmed up, but I couldn’t warm up to her character. It maybe because I want her man.
I really enjoyed this really sexy romance, there was plenty of other things going on with Damian and Janice that kept me reading straight through in one seating. If you love a hot romance with plenty to get your teeth into this is the book for you.

What a treat after a long day. Kudos to DJ for providing a book that is smart and sexy. You'll adore her characters for all of their strengths and weaknesses. Can't wait to see what this author will do next.

This was D.J.'s debut book and it was a smash! This book was filled with a work romance, hot as sin boss and an employee that doesn't do relationships. She wrote it in a dual POV. This book was a true page turner!

Janice is a lead marketing at one of the bests engineer firms. She also is teaching Zumba classes at night. She's doing this because her mom is sick. Janice does not do love and relationships. She is all work, with a little play thrown in there.

Damian is running the top of the line engineer firms. He is powerful and great at what he does. His past is something haunts him and he is trying to find a way to get over it.

Janice and Damian work together. He has harbored feelings for Janice for some time now. Janice on the other hand, thinks her boss is sexy as hell, but has sworn off dating. They tolerate each other and are about to get extremely more so on a work trip. When they get there, chemistry is flying.

Will the attraction that is there build into something more? Does Janice run because it smells like a relationship? Can Damian tame Janice and make her see that he's worth it?

I absolutely loved how hard the two main characters had to work to achieve what they wanted. This book was an absolute must read! I can't wait to see Dante and Erica's story.

Faking it with Damien by D.J. Hunnam
4 stars!
Reviewed on behalf of 2 girls who love books
I really liked this book! It was hot and steamy and I really liked Damian! Mmmmmm I love a sexy man in a suit!! I was particularly impressed that this seems to be the author’s debut novel! The characters were good and likeable; the storyline was strong and not too predictable. There were a few emotional moments thrown in amongst the steamy encounters between the two main characters, Janice and Damian. The story had a great pace to it and my interest was kept the whole way through.
I liked Janice, there a few things about her I found a little bit frustrating but I also really felt for her, especially when it came to her personal life. Damian was your typical alpha male character but I still really liked him!! Both characters had their own personal problems to deal with which made them more relatable for me as a reader. Janice and Damian were also backed up by some really good secondary characters.
I really enjoyed the story; I thought the author did a great job especially for a debut! It was a nice easy read with characters that had brilliant chemistry. I will definitely be looking forward to reading her next book – Drowning in Talon.

I felt like this book bordered on sexual harassment and sexiness. There were times I cringed because of how dominating Damian could be. He is the complete alpha male, but sometimes I just didn’t know if he was coming on too strong or not. Janice had a lot on her plate and I thought sometimes with all the emotions coming from her situation that he could easily take advantage of her.

That being said, I do think that once I started getting a better look into the world of Damian that I understood why he was trying to control so much.

The topic of death and grieving was touched upon in this book. Everyone has their own way of coping and I think that’s an important thing to emphasize, especially in a romance. To me, the characters feel like real people. They have real emotion.

Damian and Janice have so much more than an office romance. That’s why I really think that people should get to know them. This book doesn’t disappoint.

I'm going to start this review by saying that, overall, I really enjoyed it. However, I really struggled to like Janice. She struck me as a somewhat arrogant and self absorbed character, and despite attempts to soften her, she never quite won me over.

Damian is also all of those things, but for me at least, he was easier to connect with. I don't think that this is me applying double standards, I just felt that the way he presented was more relatable than Janice.

And steamy scenes? Oh my. This office romance might easily be considered as NSFW.

The wider story arc is a reasonable one. The connection between the two lead characters is compelling and well executed.

At the risk of repeating myself, overall, I really enjoyed it!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I liked the story a lot. It was well-written and it was paced well. I loved the dialogue, specifically the inner thoughts of our heroine Janice.

Damian was just… smoldering. I couldn’t help but find him appealing. Yeah he was a bit of a douche, and could be pushy - but he was genuine. He wanted what he wanted - unapologetically. He had been through a pretty horrible experience in his past, but he didn’t let that deter him from wanting to try to reach Janice and see if they could really be something together.

As much as I tried to warm up to Janice, I just couldn’t. For some reason I just didn’t like her. I sympathized with her because she was going through her own crisis, but for some reason I just couldn’t click with her.

All in all it was a great read, and the intimate scenes were seductive and sensual. I would definitely read another book by this author.

Hang on to your book or eReader. You're going to be going for quite a ride with this one!

Damian....wow! Yeah, he's totally a jerk...but you just can't stop reading because you're wondering - is this guy for real? How can he be such a jerk? Why is he so insensitive towards Janice? He's got a past too...
And Janice...she's had some bumps in her life, disappointments in the past that make her totally turned off to relationships. In addition, she is dealing with a very serious/heartbreaking issue with her mom and has so much on her plate with that. Plus, she teaches a Zumba class on top of everything else. (VERY funny part relating to that!) Will she continue to put up with Damian and his attitude even though she's risking her job? Will she let him in enough to risk her heart?

This is a fast paced story with a lot of emotion and depth from both characters - really enjoyed the dual views and inner dialogue each had. Don't miss this one!

I received a complimentary copy of this book and have volunteered to leave an honest review.

Astrid's Description: Hello, my name is clichés. I have a hard time coming up with new content, so instead, I will give you regurgitated stuff with great descriptions. Enjoy!

That is basically all I have to say about this book. It is one cliche on top of another. D.J is great at writing. Her grammar is not bad, the dialogueisn't weird orchoppy, the characters kinda grow and have theirown arc. The problem is that nothing was original. The entire book was predictableright on through to the ending.

If you still want to give this book a shot, at this time, it is availablethrough KindleUnlimited on Amazon. Let me know what you think.

I read this book in 2 days because it didn't let me to stay away from it for more than a couple hours.
It is written in such an easy way and gives you the feels that you are there, looking at the characters and understanding their feelings, ideas and thoughts.
It's the first time I read a kind of book which describes a lot of sexual scenes, but it only made the story more interesting.
I recommend you to read it, because right now I kind of miss the characters and their story.
Thanks for the author and possibility to read such an awesome book.

I absolutely loved this fantastic story by DJ Hunnam her writing is not only romantic, with Smoking Hot s-Xy scenes but so true to life. Her characters Janice, her mother, Damien, who I fell in love with myself, her best friend Cassie, were ordinary people with ordinary lives who suffer all the normal tragedies in life that we all do. This for me was an incredibly well written book with a really well executed storyline. I laughed, I cried and couldn’t put this book down. Well done DJ a great story.

What a surprise

This book was offered as a freebie in one of the author emails that I received. The blurb was interesting so I downloaded it. What a hidden gem from an unknown author. This book was very well written and it pulls you in. I found myself reading until 2 am and I had to force myself to stop. This book will has it all passion, intensity, humor as well as heartache. This author is definitely on my radar and I hope to see more books from her in the future.

It was alright. Definitely good for a first time author! I do feel like maybe Cassie and Talon's book should have been first because I felt like we were missing something when they came into the picture. But Janice and Damian had great chemistry, but she was so stubborn that it was a little annoying at times. But everything was like your typical adult contemporary book. Maybe if there were more back story on the two main characters, like more feelings about their past. As devastating as Damian's past was, I just didn't feel like he thought it was. There were a couple of moments, but I would have thought there would be more anger from him towards his ex wife.

Amount of sex 3 / 5
How explicit 3 / 5
Story 4 / 5
Overall: 3.5 / 5 (Rounded to 4 / 5)

Janice works for Damian Wood and has been going through a very difficult time with her mother dying of Cancer. She has a tendency to leave work to care for her mother, but the problem is she is not telling anyone at work. Damian gets frustrated with Janice. He has wanted her since he first met her, but being her boss, he can’t. So, he often takes it out on her. Janice thinks Damian is sexy, she believes he doesn’t like her.

Damian and Janice find out their office is up for a big project and they need to go to Salt Lake City to lead the effort in attaining the project. Next thing they know, their plane is diverted to Boise due to heavy snow closing in Salt Lake City’s airport. So, what will happen when there is only 1 room left at the hotel and they must share the king size bed?

I enjoyed the storyline as well as Damian’s character, although I had a harder time relating to Janice. I understood where she was coming from, but I just wished she would communicate with Damian.

BTW, I wouldn’t mind him being my boss!
